His project experience includes: historical restorations, residential, commercial, institutional and industrial buildings - types I through V. Thomas E. Taylor, the senior level architect with K.B. Foster, possesses over 46 years of experience as an Architect and Structural Designer, with over 15 years of experience in the Lake Tahoe area. Mr. Taylor’s vast residential experience includes deck and garage additions on difficult-to-build lots, large and small remodels, tear-down-rebuilds, and expansive custom lakefront homes. Mr. Taylor takes pride in working one-on-one with his clients. He is an expert in site sensitive design of residential projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and is known for taking creative approaches to challenging site design. He examines solar exposure, views, topography and vegetation in order to design projects that are both approvable in the Tahoe Basin, and desirable to our clients.
Project Experience
Donner Lake Remodel, Truckee, CA
Architect and structural designer for a lakefront home on Donner Lake in Truckee, California. This difficult remodel was completed on an existing residence constructed up to the shore of Donner Lake. Expansive cantilevered decks were utilized to work with the challenging site and existing residence. Large amounts of welded tubular steel were used, as well as glass. The residence boasts a three story glass staircase.
Agate Bay Lakefront Residence, Agate Bay, CA
Development of plans for a 6,800 square foot, Agate Bay, lakefront residence designed to accommodate the specific needs of the residents. The visual and aesthetics of the project were of particular interest to the local regulating agencies.
Dollar Point Residence, Tahoe City, CA
Architect and structural designer for a new residence on Dollar Point in Tahoe City, California. This expansive residence features 270° views of Lake Tahoe from the top of Dollar Point.
Lakeshore Drive Residence, Incline Village, NV
Mr. Taylor was the architect and structural designer for an expansive mountain home located on the exclusive Lakeshore Drive in Incline Village, Nevada. A large portion of this beautiful passive solar home was constructed underground.
Goldfield Hotel, Goldfield, NV
Mr. Taylor spent two years as the architect responsible for the renovation of a 4 story, 140 room hotel in Goldfield, Nevada. The brick building was originally constructed in 1908, and is on the National Historic Register. The large lobby was renovated to be historically accurate. 140 rooms were converted to 100 rooms. This hotel renovation was the largest historic renovation in process at the time, and was a featured restoration job in the National Historic Register in 1987.
